The Sports and Youth Welfare minister, Rekha Arya, announced the establishment of a youth commission to oversee the youth policy in Uttarakhand. Stating this while chairing a meeting on the State’s youth policy on Tuesday, Arya emphasised that various aspects of the policy need to be reviewed and assigned officials to develop the proposal based on consultations with young people. She directed the officials to consider different demographics, including male and female youth, youth from border areas, those affected by disasters and youth from SC, ST, EWS and OBC backgrounds. The aim is to create a policy that reflects the sentiments, needs, challenges and important suggestions of the youth, she said.
Arya further said that in collaboration with the Planning department and the Youth Welfare department, efforts would be made to create a robust youth policy that can be implemented by the coming Youth Day on January 12, 2025. She also instructed the officials to incorporate significant suggestions concerning young women and girls into the policy.
Additionally, Arya directed the departmental officials to arrange for registration through an online portal to recruit youth volunteers for the upcoming National Games. She emphasised that both young men and women should be given equal opportunities to volunteer in the National Games, adding that the Youth Volunteer Portal (YUP) will be launched once the date for the Youth Festival is confirmed, she said.
She further said that all district magistrates should engage with the youth from border areas to gather essential suggestions for the youth policy, ensuring that the proposal aligns with the needs of the stakeholders.
