Youth Congress holds protest against unemployment, substance abuse

The Youth Congress organised a massive protest on the issues of rising unemployment, use of intoxicants and elections of urban local bodies and students unions in the provisional State capital on Wednesday. Led by national president of Youth Congress Udai Bhanu Chib, the party workers and leaders assembled at the Rangers ground on the day from where they marched to the State secretariat. The police prevented the Youth Congress workers from advancing further near Astley Hall.
Raising slogans of ‘Nasha Nahi Rojgar Do’ and carrying placards, the Youth Congress workers staged a vociferous protest and tried to break the barriers erected by the Police.
Many Congress leaders and Youth Congress workers courted arrest on the occasion. Addressing the gathering at Rangers ground, the national president of Youth Congress Chib said that the ‘ Nasha Nahi Rojgar Do’ is the voice of the youth of the State. He said the Youth Congress is demanding that the government should provide employment and curb rising substance abuse in the society. He said that substance abuse is social evil. Chib said that it is unfortunate that the Modi government is doing nothing to tackle the menace of unemployment and substance abuse.
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said that the rising unemployment and substance abuse has taken a toll on the aspirations of the youth and the future is in peril.
Former chief minister Harish Rawat said that the liquor is flowing in the State and the BJP government is doing nothing to increase employment opportunities in the State.
Former PCC presidents Pritam Singh and Ganesh Godiyal, the deputy leader of Congress legislature party Bhuwan Kapdi, MLAs Harish Dhami, Ravi Bahadur, vice president Suryakant Dhasmana, vice president Mathura Dutt Joshi, State president of Youth Congress Sumitar Bhullar and other leaders attended the rally.
Youth Congress workers jostle with journalists
DEHRADUN :The Youth Congress workers entered into a heated verbal duel with some journalists at Police line ground on Wednesday. The Police had detained the Youth Congress workers near the State secretariat and had transported them to the Police lines. Incidentally the finals of the Late RP Nainwal cricket tournament organised by the Uttaranchal Press Club was being organised there. When the announcer of the tournament asked the Youth Congress worker to exercise restraint as the cricket match of journalists was underway some workers became aggressive. A minor scuffle between the Youth Congress workers and the journalists also broke out reportedly.
