A total of 102 complaints were received during Samadhan Diwas at the Dehradun district magistrate office on Monday, with several people alleging fraud in the name of investments and jobs.
The public hearing was held under the chairmanship of additional district magistrate (Finance and Revenue) K K Mishra, on the instructions of Dehradun district magistrate Ashish Chauhan. Mishra directed the officers concerned to investigate the complaints and take time-bound action.
Three women from Rishikesh — Rekha Chatrath, Neelam Negi and Ritu Garg — alleged that they had been cheated in the name of investment. They claimed losses to the tune of Rs 18.95 lakh, Rs 14.75 lakh and Rs 4.25 lakh respectively. An inquiry was ordered into the matter by Mishra.
In another case, Nathuwala resident Akhilesh Uniyal alleged that he had paid Rs 1.75 lakh after receiving a job offer from a company but was not given the job. Another complainant, Khem Chand of Indresh Nagar, alleged that Rs 50,000 had been taken from him on the promise of a fourth-class government job. Police officers were directed to investigate both the complaints.
Further, a 62-year-old woman from Nehru Colony complained of alleged harassment by her son and daughter-in-law after transferring her property to her son.
