108 emergency ambulance service helps 1,592 callers during Deepawali

The wheels of the ambulances of the 108 service of the State were constantly on the move to respond to the emergency calls during the Deepawali festival.

The data released by the ambulance service suggests that it provided help in 1,592 cases from October 29 to November 1 (Dhanteras to Deepawali) this year. It is worth mentioning here that the emergencies related to medical, fire and accidents increase appreciably during the festival of Deepawali and the service was all geared up to meet emergencies on the day. 

The service responded to 53 cases of burn, 189 cases of road accident, 409 cases related to pregnancy and 817 other cases during the period of Deepawali.  The personnel of the services helped in safe deliveries (births) during transit to the hospitals in the ambulances during the four day long festival period.  

With 331 cases, Dehradun district had the maximum number of emergencies during the festival of lights from October 29 to November 1.  Udham Singh Nagar had 232 while 225 cases were reported from Haridwar district during the festival period. In Nainital district 137 emergency calls were received by the service. 

 In Dehradun district 55 cases of road accidents were reported.  Maximum cases of burn (18) were reported in Bageshwar district followed by 10 cases in Nainital and six each in Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts. 

The state head of 108 service, Anil Sharma reviewed the services provided by the ambulance service during the Deepawali festival in a video conferencing session held in Dehradun office on Saturday. He said that the ambulance service was in a state of high alert to respond to emergencies during Deepawali. Sharma said that it is a matter of great pride that the personnel of the ambulance service worked with full commitment on the day when people celebrate the festival with their family members. 

 He added that arrangements were made to ensure that the ambulances don’t get stuck up in the traffic during the festival. Sharma further informed that additional technical staff was deployed during the festival to ensure fast response and smooth operation.
