The administration will install traffic lights at 11 busy junctions of Dehradun district from next month. Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal claimed that Dehradun is set to witness significant improvements in road safety and traffic management as the district administration moves forward with plans to install traffic lights at 11 busy junctions. The tender process for the project has been completed and installation work is scheduled to begin next month. He said that besides this, the city’s major intersections are now equipped with 150 integrated CCTV cameras for real-time monitoring of traffic and road safety.
According to Bansal, this marks the first time in five years that such an initiative has been undertaken in the Dehradun district. He also stated that to support infrastructure development and beautification, the district administration has allocated Rs 10 crore from the Smart City budget. As part of these efforts, work has begun on addressing waterlogging issues at ISBT Chowk. A new drainage system is under construction to prevent the area from being submerged during the monsoon season. The budget also includes provisions for the maintenance of the drainage system after its completion, ensuring long-term relief for commuters and travellers, he said.
He further informed that beautification work has also started at key locations, including Sai Mandir Junction, Kuthal Gate and Dilaram Chowk. These areas are being decorated with artistic elements reflecting the cultural heritage of the state. Public spaces and main roads will feature artwork showcasing local traditions, religious sites and memories of statehood movement activists. The initiative aims to offer visitors a glimpse into the region’s cultural identity, he added.
