13 lakh voters deleted from electoral rolls during pre-SIR & SIR: Congress

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The Congress party has demanded that the Election Commission should give assembly constituency wise data of the voters deleted from the electoral rolls in the pre-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls and the SIR in the State.  Interacting with the media at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday, the vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Suryakant Dhasmana expressed resentment at the final electoral roll published by the ECI after the end of the SIR in the State.

He claimed that names of more than 13 lakh voters were removed by the election commission during the process of pre SIR and SIR in the State. Dhasmana further claimed that names of most of the voters were removed as part of a conspiracy to steal the votes. He said that after the exposure of irregularities in the Form VI and VII, the ECI has taken a U- turn which has put a question mark over the entire exercise of the SIR.  Dhasmana demanded that the names of the voters which were removed should be added back in the voter list.

The head of the SIR committee of Uttarakhand Congress Manoj Rawat told The Pioneer that in January 2025, the State had a total of 84,29,459 voters. “This figure became, 79,60,762 in June, 2026 after the end of the Pre- SIR activity in the State. After the end of the SIR, the commission released the final electoral roll which had 71,58,949  voters. It means that names of about 13 lakh voters were removed,’’ he said.
