A group of youngsters from Haryana on a three day visit to Uttarakhand, met chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his residence on Saturday. Sharing their experiences, the youth praised the efforts being made in the State in the areas of connectivity, tourism, home-stays, solar energy, development of border areas and public welfare schemes.

Praising Uttarakhand’s clean environment and improved air quality, the youth noted that the work being done in the home-stay sector in the State, and the government’s support for this initiative, is providing new opportunities for self-employment for local people.

Welcoming the youth, CM said that such interstate tours provide young people with an opportunity to understand the country’s cultural diversity, innovations taking place in different states and best practices for development. This also increases the exchange of ideas and experiences between States.

He said that the State government’s effort is to ensure that the benefits of development reach the lowest in society. “In keeping with the spirit of Antyodaya, various schemes are being implemented for the welfare of the poor, women, youth, farmers and other sections of society. Effective steps have been taken to connect youth with employment and self-employment, as well as to make government recruitment processes transparent. Approximately 35,000 youth have been appointed to government services in the past five years,’’ he said.

Dhami said that the State has implemented the Uniform Civil Code and special attention is being paid to women’s empowerment, self-employment, tourism, local products, homestays, solar energy, and the development of border areas.

The Chief Minister said that this type of dialogue between youth from different states provides a means to understand the country’s diversity and learn from each other.
