The city will witness the tallest ever Ravan effigy going up in flames this Dussehra. After preparation of three months, the 131-feet high effigy is all set to go up in flames on October 24 on the Parade Ground here.
Craftsman Tejinder Chauhan told this correspondent, “This is the first time I am making a Ravan effigy in Dehradun. However, this year the effigy is quite different from effigies burnt in past years. The Ravan effigy in Doon for this Dussehra is the tallest made here.” He further informed that it took him three months to make the Ravan effigy. About 25 workers worked day and night and guarded the effigy to protect it from any kind of tampering. The effigy has been made at a cost of Rs 12 lakh, he said.
Chauhan added that eco-friendly crackers have been used in the effigy to minimise the scope for pollution from its burning. “Considering the safety of the public, the whole structure of Ravan’s effigy is made using steel rods. Apart from this a barricading will be set up at the boundary for security personnel to make sure the event goes well,” he said.
Chauhan is known for his effigies and his work has also been mentioned five times in the Limca Book of World Records.
