The State government is moving closer to executing measures to redressing a major problem causing traffic congestion and public inconvenience in the state by making new parking places in different parts of the State.

Chief secretary Sukhbir Singh Sandhu reviewed the progress of new parking projects on Thursday. Officials informed that out of the 180 sites marked for parking space, 134 had been found appropriate in the feasibility report while the report of the remaining 39 places is awaited. Sandhu directed the officials that the dates for each step from identification to operation of the parking facilities should be fixed now. The dates should be fixed considering site specific planning to ascertain when the parking sites will start functioning. He said that the projects should be categorised according to importance and need. Work should be started immediately on sites where there is no problem in construction of the parking facility. The State administration should be informed about ongoing projects which have slowed down due to lack of funds, he said, while adding that funds will not be an issue for any project.

Sandhu directed all the district magistrates to consistently look for new spots for parking in their respective districts. The progress in parking projects will be reviewed every week at the chief secretary level, he added.Attachments area
