The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) has been allocated 137 electric buses by the Central government, said general manager (Operations) Kranti Singh. Out of these 137 buses, 100 will operate in Dehradun and 37 in Haridwar. These electric buses are part of an initiative to promote a cleaner and greener environment, he said.
Singh further stated that while the electric buses are ready for operation, the establishment of charging stations is currently underway in both Haridwar and the Transport Nagar workshop in Dehradun. It is expected that the buses will begin operating within this year. He further informed another key objective behind introducing these electric buses is to replace diesel buses. Diesel bus operators in the city will have the option to switch to electric buses, with subsidies provided to assist them in this transition.
Additionally, Singh said that the UTC plans to operate electric buses on interstate routes soon.
