1,454 personnel to carry out vote counting for ULB elections in Dehradun

A total of 1,454 officials and employees have been deployed for the vote counting process scheduled for Saturday, following the urban local body elections held on January 23 in Dehradun district. There are seven ULBs in the district in which six vote counting centres have been set up with 189 tables.

The Dehradun district magistrate and returning officer Savin Bansal stated that seven Returning Officers (ROs) have been appointed to oversee the counting process in the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). He informed that the vote counting for the MCD will take place at the Forest Rangers Ground, where the administration has set up 105 counting tables. Each RO will supervise 15 tables to ensure a smooth and efficient counting process.

Besides this, 14 tables each have been set up in the counting centres of the Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR) and the municipal councils of Vikasnagar, Herbertpur, Mussoorie, Doiwala and Selaqui Nagar Panchayat. Besides this, 17 accounting teams have also been formed and deployed in all counting centres to ensure a seamless counting process across all wards in the district, Bansal said. Preparations began early Friday morning at the Forest Rangers Ground in Dehradun city to make arrangements for the vote counting day.

Labourers were seen marking entry and exit points and setting up poles for tents to house the counting tables and other facilities. By the afternoon, officials had arrived at the site to finalise arrangements and ensure all systems were functioning smoothly for vote counting day.

Police officers were also deployed at the site to monitor security arrangements. Several ULB election candidates and their agents were also observed inspecting the preparations and observing the ongoing work, which continued late into the evening. The DM assured that all necessary arrangements had been made in all voting centres to conduct the vote counting process efficiently and peacefully on Saturday.
