Shopkeepers to demolish about 600 encroachments on their own
On the second day of the anti-encroachment drive in Dehradun, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) and Dehradun district administration demolished 176 encroachments in the Paltan Bazaar area. No demolition was carried out in any other marked encroached areas of other zones of the city on Wednesday. According to the municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, all the teams were involved in the removal of encroachments in Paltan Bazaar area as this area alone has about 600 encroachments.
“We demolished 176 encroachments out of around 600 encroachments in Paltan Bazaar on Wednesday. Since the shopkeepers of that area asked administration to grant them some time to remove their encroachment on their own, the administration approved them to remove their illegal establishments by Thursday evening or else our team will demolish them,” said Pandey. He also informed that a team from the anti-encroachment task force will be there to monitor the situation and ensure all the encroachments are removed by the shopkeepers. “Our other three teams will work in the other zones of the city. Two teams will demolish encroachments in Dalanwala and one team will remove encroachments from Kaulagarh first and later in the DL Road area,” added Pandey.
Meanwhile, some shopkeepers in Paltan Bazaar were agitated by this move claiming that the administration is making the lives of shopkeepers miserable during the pandemic. Some businessmen also opposed the demolition drive causing temporary hindrance. However, the officials stated that the illegal encroachments will be removed from Paltan Bazaar as it causes traffic jams and creates nuisance for the public.
