DM says ultrasound use must remain limited to treatment

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
Ultrasound must be used strictly only for treatment purposes. The district administration will take strict action against unethical practices, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said during the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) advisory committee meeting held on Sunday. The DM directed that licenses of ultrasound centres violating the PCPNDT Act or failing to apply for timely renewal should be cancelled without notice or explanation.
He said that the administration is equipped to act against centres operating without registration or conducting illegal sex determination. He mandated fire safety equipment, pollution control certificates and approved building maps for all ultrasound centres. Bansal said that the district administration has now made these requirements compulsory. He also instructed officials to paste the pollution certificates at visible locations in the centres.
The DM ordered roster-based inspections of centres across different areas. He directed that these inspections must include the respective SDMs and police officers. During the review of sex ratio data, the DM noted that the Sahaspur block showed a significantly lower sex ratio compared to other blocks. He instructed a social audit of sex ratio in Sahaspur block.
The audit team will include the additional chief medical officer, a female medical officer and representatives from social organisations. He said that the administration will not allow misuse of technology for unethical purposes and will take immediate action against those found violating the law.
