Uttarakhand Cyber Crime Police are testing an Artificial Intelligence (AI)- based system on the 1930 cyber fraud helpline to handle more calls simultaneously and help victims report fraud faster. The Special Task Force (STF) is also planning to increase the number of police personnel handling calls from 15 to 30 and raise the number of active lines from six to 10 to reduce waiting time. Around 1,500 calls are received daily by cyber cell.

The STF senior superintendent of police, Ajai Singh said that the AI system was currently being tested in Hindi and English. The department is also considering adding local languages such as Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari, depending on public needs and the nature of calls received.

“Four employees from leading banks would be stationed at the cyber police station to coordinate with banks and help freeze the money lost by victims quickly. Our main goal is to recover more money,” Singh said.

The AI system will collect necessary information from callers and assist them with the initial complaint process. Victims will also have the option of speaking directly to police personnel. The superintendent of police (Cyber) Shantanu Parashar demonstrated how the system collects information and sends a message to complainants after the process is completed.

The system is expected to help the police act quickly and coordinate with banks to freeze suspected fraudulent transactions before the money is transferred further.

To protect the callers’ personal information, the STF is planning to set up a separate server for the system. It also plans to include safeguards in its agreement with the technology provider to protect sensitive information from third parties and ensure unnecessary data is deleted after a fixed period.
