PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Uttarkashi

A two-day teacher learning workshop for science teachers commenced in Uttarkashi on Tuesday under the joint auspices of the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) and Agastya International Foundation. The workshop’s objective is to promote scientific thinking in schools by making science teaching more effective, interesting and activity-based, the organisers of the event said. About 35 science teachers from across the district are participating in it.

While inaugurating the workshop, the chief education officer Shailendra Amoli said that teaching science solely as a theoretical subject is not sufficient. “Experiment-based and experiential learning is essential to develop students’ scientific outlook, logical thinking and problem-solving abilities,” he said while demonstrating a physics experiment. Notably,
this is the third teacher training workshop held in Uttarkashi.

During the workshop, teachers shared their experiences while actively participating in various scientific activities and experiments. Participants expressed that such training programmes play a vital role in making science teaching more effective and in developing students’ curiosity, rationality, innovation, and a spirit of discovery.
