3 GBPUAT scientists receive patent for making grease from Pirul
PANTNAGAR: Three scientists of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology have received patent for making biogrease from the highly inflammable Pirul leaves the presence of which in the forests is held mainly responsible for the wild fire that erupts every year reducing swathes of forest land to ashes. The university sources said that the scientist trio has achieved this success through two years’ hard work. These three scientists are A K Verma, department of Biochemistry; T K Bhattacharya, department of Agricultural and Power Engineering and a student of the department of Biochemistry.
Notably, there is about 0.34 million hectare pine forest area spread across Uttarakhand which produces about two million tons of highly inflammable pine leaves every year.
Verma under whose guidance the research was done said that biogrease is biodegradable and environment friendly. The vice- chancellor of Pantnagar University Manmohan Singh Chauhan congratulated the scientists on getting the patent.
