3 held for duping people in the name of gold jewellery cleaning

Uttarkashi police have busted an interstate gang whose members were allegedly stealing gold from people by deceiving them in the name of cleaning old. Three suspects have been arrested so far. Uttarkashi SP Sarita Dobal hailed the police team for this success and announced a cash prize of Rs 5,000 for the team members.

Things began on September 17 when an elderly woman from Matli was deceived.  As per the complaint lodged at Uttarkashi police station, an unknown man arrived, took the ornaments for cleaning them and then removed the gold using chemicals and returned the remaining metal after coating it with a turmeric-coloured chemical.
Based on the complaint, the police immediately registered a case against the unknown accused under sections 303(2) and 318(4) of the IPC and begun the investigation.

Acting swiftly based on CCTV footage and intelligence inputs, the police team arrested three members of the interstate gang—Pawan Soni (38) from Jharkhand, Khantar Mandal (34) from Bihar and Sanjay Kumar (39) from Bihar—from a hotel near Uttarkashi bus stand. Police also recovered chemicals and other materials used in the theft from their possession.

The police investigation also revealed that the accused trio has several cases of fraud and organized crime registered against them in the Rikhnikhal and Satpuli police stations of Pauri district. Pauri police have also taken action against them under the Gangsters Act.
