Mahara demands impartial investigation in Haldwani murder case

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Former Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara has said that the murder of 23 year old Nitin Lohani in Haldwani on Monday has again exposed criminal activities under the protection of ruling BJP in the State. The man accused of murder is a BJP councillor and Mandal vice president of BJP Amit Bisht.

Mahara said that a few months ago when the Police tried to take action against Bisht in a case, the Kaladhungi MLA Bansidhar Bhagat sat on a Dharna outside Kotwali. He also threatened the SSP and pointing towards Bisht told the SSP to recognise him properly and ensure that no action should be taken against him.

“This sentence was not merely a threat but a slap on the face of the law and order situation in the State. In such a condition where the ruling party is shielding the criminals, from whom the general public will seek justice,’’ he questioned.

Demanding a high level and impartial inquiry in the Nitin Lohani murder case, Mahara said that the government should ensure that no one is above the law. He said that the people want justice for Lohani and they will not tolerate injustice.
