32 cylinders, truck with 327 cylinders seized in QRT action

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE, Dehradun
The Quick Response Team (QRT) seized 32 gas cylinders and took a truck carrying 327 cylinders into possession late on Saturday night. The team conducted a raid at a closed petrol pump near Niranjanpur Sabzi Mandi where illegal refilling of gas cylinders was allegedly being carried out inside the premises. During the operation, the team seized 32 gas cylinders, including 27 domestic, four small, and one commercial cylinder. They also recovered four illegal gas refilling machines from the spot. In addition, a vehicle with registration number UP17 BT0390, carrying 327 gas cylinders, was taken into possession. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape during the raid.
Officials later contacted the vehicle owner, who said that the cylinders were brought from Loni gas bottling plant. It is suspected that the cylinders were being refilled illegally and sold in the market at higher prices. Authorities said that such activities are dangerous and can lead to serious accidents, apart from being a violation of the law. A case has been registered at Patelnagar police station and the search for the accused is ongoing. The district administration has said that strict action will continue against those involved in illegal gas activities.
The QRT formed by the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has been actively working to stop the black marketing of LPG cylinders in the city, officials said.
