The Haldwani regional office of the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board (UKPCB) organised a mega cleanliness drive along the Kaladhungi–Nainital road on Monday in collaboration with the environmental NGO ‘Go Clean Go Green – Let’s Make It Happen’ and with the support of the Nainital Zila Panchayat.
The drive covered nearly two kilometres of the roadside stretch, where volunteers and officials collected approximately 350 kg of waste- 150 kg of plastic waste and 200 kg of biodegradable waste- from the roadside and adjoining areas.
The entire quantity of waste was transported by the Nainital Zila Panchayat for scientific disposal, ensuring environmentally responsible waste management.
More than 60 participants, including officials from various government departments, volunteers and local residents, actively participated in the campaign.
Among those present were UKPCB regional officer Anurag Negi and his team, Nainital Zila Panchayat chairperson Deepa Darmwal, additional chief officer (AMA) Anil Joshi, and president of Go Clean Go Green – Let’s Make It Happen, Manoj Negi.
The organisers said that the initiative was aimed not only at removing litter but also at creating awareness about environmental conservation, plastic waste management and community participation in maintaining public spaces. They appealed to the citizens to adopt responsible waste disposal practices and contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and healthier Uttarakhand.
