41 arrested for drunk driving, 55 detained for consuming alcohol in public spaces

The police arrested 41 men for drunk driving and detained 55 individuals for consuming alcohol in public places and causing disturbances in the wee hours of Saturday. In a major crackdown on traffic violations, the police launched a late-night operation against drunk driving and rash driving on Saturday and arrested 41 individuals for driving under the influence. Their vehicles were also seized as part of strict enforcement measures to ensure road safety, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said.

He informed that a total of 55 individuals were detained for consuming alcohol in public places and causing disturbances. Legal action was taken against them under the Police Act. Besides this, police took action against reckless drivers, seizing 25 vehicles involved in overspeeding and dangerous driving. The operation also targeted public drinking and unruly behavior, Singh said. 

The SSP informed that to strengthen enforcement, he has deployed two additional interceptor vehicles in accident-prone areas. These vehicles will patrol key routes, including Rajpur Road from Dilaram Chowk to Rajpur Thana junction and from Kirshali Chowk to Sahastradhara Crossing. Their primary role will be to monitor traffic violations and take immediate action against offenders, he said. The SSP also conducted a meeting with police officers, emphasising the need for improved traffic management and stricter action against those who endanger public safety. He said that the police must remain committed to curbing road accidents through continuous surveillance and proactive enforcement of traffic laws. Singh said that with these stringent measures in place, the police aim to instil a sense of responsibility among drivers and ensure safer roads for all residents. He also urged citizens to follow traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving and cooperate with law enforcement to prevent accidents and maintain order across the district.
