A 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in the Buggawala area of Haridwar district within 24 hours of the police complaint being registered.
According to sources, a resident of the Buggawala area lodged a police complaint on Monday stating that his minor daughter had been raped by Bandarjud village resident Liyaqat. The police lodged a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and began searching for the accused.
Considering the seriousness of the case, the senior superintendent of police Pramendra Singh Dobal directed the police to ensure that the accused is arrested soon. The local police tracked the location of the accused and caught him at Kudkawala Chowk before he could abscond. The police said that the accused is being questioned and will be soon presented in the court.
