The Corbett national park administration organised an event to mark the 50th anniversary of Project Tiger on Saturday. Forest department personnel were felicitated for commendable work in biodiversity and wildlife conservation at the event held in the municipal hall.
Corbett director Dheeraj Pandey said that the Central government had banned hunting in 1970 and implemented the Wildlife Protection Act in 1972. He said, “We achieved the target we were given for tiger conservation about four years ago in 2018. We succeded in doubling the population of tigers in 2018.However, challenges like poaching have also increased along with the rise in the tiger population,” he said.
