In latest news from Doon, two days after the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered deployment of a nodal officer for controlling forest blaze, several hectares of forest lands are learnt to have been engulfed by forest fire spanning across Garhwal and Kumaon divisions.
As per the forest department sources, over 52 forest blaze incidents occurred in the State in a day alone, leaving the forest employees grappling with the fire. While 35 such incidents happened in forests under Kumaon division 14 happened in forests under Garhwal division. This aside, three incidents happened in wild life sanctuary areas. Further, 76.65 hectares of forest floors were gutted in the blaze and the loss the State incurred was pegged at Rs 1,65,000.
The forest officers said they were apprehending more such incidents in coming days with the mercury rising. Besides, the prolonged dry spell might exacerbate things, they said.
