Six people -including five of a family-were killed in a tragic accident on Friday when the vehicle they were travelling fell into a deep gorge near Sabdarkhal on the Pauri-Devprayag road. The dead include a three year old girl. The fateful vehicle was on its way to Pauri from Haridwar. The accident took place near Sabdarkhal, close to Kunddhar, when the vehicle, which was travelling from Devprayag towards Pauri, reportedly lost control and veered off the road before falling into the gorge. Local residents rushed to the spot after the crash and alerted the police.
The senior superintendent of police (SSP) Pauri, Sarvesh Panwar said teams the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Devprayag police rushed to the accident spot and started a rescue operation.
The teams retrieved the dead and the injured from the gorge. The injured was rushed to the Base Hospital Srinagar where he succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Afzal, his wife Shabbo, their three year old daughter, 16 year old son Aman and 21 year old son Arman and a relative Gufran. All the victims were residents of Raipur Jeetpur under Laksar Kotwali police station in Haridwar district.
