71-year-old Golden Visa holder undergoes eye surgery at GDMC hospital

The Ophthalmology department at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital has successfully performed cataract surgery on a 71-year-old Golden Visa holder from Dubai, Naresh Talwar. According to officials, Talwar sought information about hospitals in Dehradun after he noticed a cataract in his left eye. Based on recommendations from social media and friends in Dehradun, he consulted professor and unit head at GDMC Hospital, Dr Sushil Ojha, regarding the surgical procedure.

Talwar learned that the Ophthalmology department is equipped with modern technology that allows for operations using minimal incision performed under local anesthetic drops instead of injections. After gathering this information, he met Ojha at GDMC. Following the necessary tests, his surgery was successfully carried out without the use of injections.

Officials informed that Talwar had previously undergone eye surgery at a private hospital in Mumbai. Talwar praised the Uttarakhand government for providing world-class medical care.

Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat stated that there are plans to develop medical tourism at GDMC hospital in the future. Additionally, director of Medical Education, Dr Ashutosh Sayana congratulated the surgical team and expressed intentions to elevate GDMC to be among the top 100 medical colleges in the country within the next five years. Principal Dr Geeta Jain and Head of department Dr Shanti Pandey said that the Ophthalmology department is undergoing upgrades, including the treatment of retina issues and the establishment of an eye bank in the near future. Medical superintendent Dr RS Bisht and deputy MS Dr NS Bisht also congratulated the team on its success.
