A nine-year-old boy died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the national highway in the Umedpur area of Dehradun on Sunday.
The driver fled the spot after the accident. According to officials, Vasant Vihar police received information about the accident through the 112 emergency service. Reaching the spot, the police sent the child to Subharti Hospital for treatment.
The boy was identified as Umedpur resident Daksh Dhiman. Police said Daksh was crossing the newly built national highway when an unknown vehicle hit him. Despite medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The police said that the post-mortem examination will be conducted as per legal procedure. The case is being investigated and efforts are underway to identify the vehicle involved in the accident.
