A man was allegedly cheated of more than Rs two lakh after being promised a vehicle at low price from the Uttarakhand Transport department’s auction. The Raipur police have registered a case and started an investigation.
According to the police, Anurag Rana, a resident of Tapovan Enclave in Raipur, met Ashish Sharma in February this year. Sharma allegedly told him that he arranged the sale of vehicles auctioned by the Transport department in Dehradun. Rana trusted the offer as he wanted to buy a vehicle.
The complainant said that the accused sent him some auction-related documents on WhatsApp to gain his confidence. Believing the documents to be genuine, Rana handed over Rs 2.03 lakh in cash to Sharma on Raipur Road.
However, even after several months, the vehicle was not delivered. When Rana asked for his money back, the accused returned only Rs 10,000 and promised to pay the remaining amount later. The complainant alleged that when he again demanded the balance amount, Sharma threatened to kill him.
The Raipur police station sub-inspector Sanjit Kumar said that a case has been registered on the basis of the complaint. Police have started an investigation into the alleged cheating and death threats.
