According to the police, they had received information about suspicious persons tailing a local trader and reconnoitering his home, which the police were also keeping an eye on the situation. On Sunday evening, when it was learnt that the miscreants had been seen near the home of the trader, constables Pancham Prakash and Rajendra Singh posted in the Kasba Chowki of Laksar Kotwali attempted to catch the suspects. However, the armed miscreants, reported to be at least three in number, shot at both the constables. A total of three rounds were reportedly fired after which the constables were injured. While the assailants escaped, the locals sent the injured duo to a private nursing home nearby.
Circle officer Hemendra Singh Negi and Kotwal Yashpal Singh Bisht reached the nursing home with heavy police force and enquired about the incident. The doctors there referred injured constable Singh to a higher centre due to his serious condition while the other constable was said to be out of danger. Both the policemen are reported to be in a stable condition. Negi said that the two constables were checking into a suspected attempt at armed robbery on a trader’s home in Laksar. They had received information about the miscreants who were on a motorcycle. These miscreants shot at the constables when they tried to stop them.
