State received gift of connectivity projects of Rs 3,500 crore during the PM’s visit
The two-day Uttarakhand visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended on Saturday with Uttarakhand benefitting considerably from it as in the past.The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami were present at the Dehradun airport to see off the PM. The CM presented the famous Bal Mithai of Almora and a designer cap of Mussoorie to the PM at the airport. The speaker of Uttarakhand Assembly Ritu Khanduri, Tehri MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah, Haridwar MP and former Union minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Uttarakhand minister Rekha Arya and others were present at the airport.
During his visit the PM Modi gave a gift of infrastructure projects associated with increasing connectivity in the border areas and the religious places of the State. The PM laid the foundation stone of Kedarnath ropeway, Hemkund ropeway and the road widening projects in Mana and Malari areas in Chamoli district bordering the Indo-Tibetan border during his visit. The Kedarnath ropeway would be 9.7 kilometres long and would connect Gaurikund with Kedarnath. Once completed this ropeway would reduce the travel from six to seven hours to 30 minutes. The Hemkund ropeway between Govindghat and Hemkund Sahib would be 12.5 kilometre long. This ropeway would slash the travel time from one day to only 45 minutes. The ropeway would also connect to Ghangharia which is the entrance door for the valley of flowers. Apart from giving an impetus to religious tourism and providing a fillip to the economic development of the region, new employment opportunities would be created by these projects.
Modi also inaugurated road widening projects of Rs 1,000 crore during his visit. The Mana to Mana Pass (NH 7) and Joshimath to Malari ( NH 107B) road widening projects would provide all weather connectivity in the border areas that would be strategically very important for the country.
