The Uttarakhand Special Task Force arrested a vicious member of an inter-state drug smuggling gang Puran Singh (42) with nearly 4.5 kilogrammes of charas from Kathgodam, Nainital late on Sunday night. The senior superintendent of police of STF, Ayush Agrawal informed on Monday that a team of anti narcotics task force (ANTF) arrested an inter-state drug smuggler from near Okhalkanda market of Kathgodam police station area on Sunday night and recovered about 4.5 kilogrammes of charas from him.
The STF has also registered a complaint against the arrested accused in Kathgodam police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act. Agrawal said that the accused who belongs to Mukteshwar revealed in the preliminary interrogation that he allegedly used to bring charas from remote areas of Mukteshwar at lower prices and supply it to the plain areas with the help of his accomplice.
The STF is looking for the absconding accomplice too. The SSP said that the accused was a big drug peddler who had been supplying drugs for many years despite authorities’ constant efforts to arrest him. Agrawal said that a team of STF was consistently working to nab him for the last one month. The STF is also inquiring about the supplier and buyers of illicit drugs supplied by the arrested accused to take action against them too. The teams are also raiding all possible places in search of the accomplice of the arrested accused, he added.
