MCD launches anti-dengue campaign in city

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Thursday launched a larvicidal tanker campaign to curb mosquito breeding and strengthen dengue prevention measures ahead of the monsoon season.

The campaign was flagged off from the MCD premises by Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey.

Speaking on the occasion, Thapliyal said that preventing seasonal diseases like dengue requires cooperation between the administration and the public. Anti-dengue and sanitation activities will continue in different parts of the city in the upcoming weeks as part of the corporation’s efforts to prevent mosquito breeding during the monsoon season, he added.

About 15 larvicidal tankers have been deployed in the first phase of the campaign. The vehicles will carry out spraying and treatment in areas considered vulnerable to mosquito breeding, including drains, waterlogged locations, vacant plots, construction sites and other public spaces, Pandey said. He said that the campaign forms part of the corporation’s pre-monsoon dengue prevention efforts. In addition to larvicidal spraying, MCD plans to undertake awareness programmes, field inspections, source reduction measures and sanitation activities across the city. He directed the officials to ensure systematic implementation of the campaign across all wards and stressed the need for regular monitoring, particularly in sensitive areas.

The MCD also appealed to citizens to avoid water accumulation around their homes, keep water storage containers covered and regularly change water in coolers and flower pots.

Chief municipal health officer Dr Anand Shukla, deputy municipal commissioner Tanvir Singh Marwah, assistant municipal commissioner Rajbir Singh Chauhan, councillors and other officials were present during the launch.
