In latest Uttarakhand news, the Nainital High Court while hearing the petition challenging Y Plus security being provided to the Khanpur Independent MLA Umesh Sharma has asked the State government about how many people had been provided with such security cover since rules were adopted in this matter. The division bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Manoj Tiwari has also asked the State government to provide detailed report of the criminal cases lodged against such persons by the second week of July. A Haridwar resident Bhagat Singh approached the court with the petition that Singh gets one security guard as an MLA and if an MLA feels threatened he may be provided with an additional security guard. But this involves a process, the petitioner says. Prior to providing the MLA with additional security guard, the report of the local intelligence unit is to be sent to the department concerned. The petitioner alleges that this normal procedure was not followed in case of Umesh Sharma.
