Police start probe against woman showering currency notes on Shivling in Kedarnath

The Rudraprayag police on Monday registered a complaint against a woman who is seen showering currency notes on the Shivling inside the Garbh Grah (sanctum sanctorum) of the Kedarnath temple as seen in a short video clip widely circulated on social media. The complaint was filed by the officials concerned of the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) who have asked the police to take appropriate action in the matter, said the Rudraprayag superintendent of police Vishakha Ashok Bhadane.

A video went viral on social media platforms on Monday in which a woman can be seen behaving inappropriately in the Garbh Griha. She is disgracefully showering currency notes as people do in wedding events and functions to display joy while a priest is performing Puja, as can be seen in the video. Many have called the act disrespectful and insulting to lord Shiva as well as to the other devotees who were performing Puja in the Garbh Griha at that time besides all those who worship lord Shiva. Questions are also being raised about the Teerth Purohits acting nonchalantly while the woman is showering currency notes.

The SP said that BKTC representatives registered a complaint on Monday regarding the video that surfaced on social media platforms and the police have started the investigation.  The police understand the sentiments of people against the video but the probe has begun and the police will act against the guilty party accordingly, added the SP. She assured that the police will nab the guilty party soon. The police have claimed that the identity of the woman is not known yet. In an official statement on Monday, the BKTC stated that the committee took cognisance of the viral video and asked the police officials to take strict action. The committee has also approached the district magistrate and SP to take immediate action against the guilty party, as per BKTC.
