Red alert issued- very to extremely heavy rain forecast in State today

The State meteorological centre has issued a red alert for the entire State for Tuesday with very heavy to extremely heavy rain forecast in some parts and heavy to very heavy rain forecast in other parts. The State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said on Monday that a red alert had been issued for Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri and Haridwar districts starting Monday night as the rainfall activity being experienced in these districts was likely to become very heavy during the night
. Stating that some parts of these districts could experience very heavy to extremely heavy rain on Monday night, he said that people in these districts should remain alert. The level of water in the rivers in these districts is likely to rise while waterlogging prone areas are likely to suffer again in the plains. Those in and near landslide prone areas have also been warned to remain alert. Singh said that the activity is expected to peak on Tuesday due to which the centre has issued a red alert for the entire State. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in isolated places in Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts while very heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely in isolated places in other districts today.
Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and very intense /extremely intense spells are likely to occur at isolated places in the State today. Stressing on the need for citizens to remain alert and observe precautions he said that people should travel only if essential while adding that the activity is expected to subside on Wednesday though light to moderate rain is forecast in the State with heavy to very heavy rain expected in some parts of the mountainous and plain regions.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness generally cloudy skies. Few spells of light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur, one or two of which may be intense/heavy in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 29 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Monday were 13.2 degrees Celsius and 24.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 33.6 degrees Celsius and 26.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 24.1 degrees Celsius and 16.9 degrees Celsius in New Tehri and 21.1 degrees Celsius and 15.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar. There was 126 millimetres rain in Rishikesh, 103 millimetres in Narendranagar, 24.6 millimetres in Dehradun, 31 millimetres in Champawat and 22 millimetres in Vikasnagar.
