Acting on the order of the Uttarakhand High Court, the Nainital district administration launched eviction drive from the B D Pandey district hospital area. The district administration team reached the site with all preparations and asked the squatters to leave the land on their own. Subsequently, they started dismantling their houses. However, they at the same time vented their grievances on being forced to leave their hearths and homes where they had been living for about four decades while claiming that they have ownership rights on the land. They alleged that the State health department which is claiming this land as belonging to it had never objected to hundreds of houses being built on this land.
Speaking on the matter, the SDM Nainital Pramod Kumar said that the health department had identified this encroached land long ago. He further said that they had asked the encroachers to leave on their own on the first day of the drive and in the next few days, the administration would forcefully evict those who refuse to vacate the land.
Notably, the Nainital High Court had ordered the district administration to remove encroachments from the B D Pandey Hospital premises.
