Pension Maha rally, a wake-up call for govt on OPS: Painyuli

Tuesday, 03 OCTOBER 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The president of Uttarakhand chapter of National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) Jeetmani Painyuli has claimed that the success of the Pension Maha rally at Ramlila Ground in New Delhi on October 1 has given a wake-up call to the government. He said that those in power must have understood the writing on the wall and the intention of the employees. Painyuli added that the ‘vote for restoration of OPS’ campaign will be launched soon.

On Monday the executive committee of Uttarakhand OPS went to the Raj Ghat in New Delhi to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. Later in the day the members of the committee visited the Rampur Tiraha in Muzaffarnagar district to pay homage to the martyrs of the statehood movement.

A meeting of the executive was organised in Dehradun in the afternoon in which the members expressed gratitude to the employees for making the Pension Maha rally a success. The employees are demanding the abolition of the New Pension Scheme (NPS) which was started in the year 2004. Under the NPS a portion of the salary of the employees is deducted every month and the government makes an equal contribution. The employees are finding the NPS non lucrative and are demanding the restoration of OPS in which the retiring employee gets 50 per cent of his last drawn salary as pension. In the OPS the employees also get the benefit of Dearness Allowance (DA), family pension and commutation.
