6,000 retd govt employees given choice of availing old pension scheme

In latest news from Dehradun, as per the State cabinet’s decision, the State government employees whose job advertisements/ notifications were issued before the October 1, 2005 notification that introduced the new pension scheme have been given the choice for opting for the old pension scheme. This is in accordance with the notification issued by the Union ministry of personnel, public grievances and pension in March 2023. As per the State government sources, about 6,000 retired employees have been enabled to avail the provisions of the old pension scheme under the cabinet decision. Sources added that the number of retired State government employees is 67,557 who have been drawing pension under the old pension scheme. The total number of pensioners in Uttarakhand is 1, 35, 566 and the State government has been spending Rs 6000 crore annually for providing pension. Besides, 90, 247 retired employees are now drawing pension under the new scheme. The organisations which kept demanding the State government to provide the employees whose job advertisements/ notifications were issued before October 1. 2005 with pensions under the old scheme sounded happy with the cabinet having approved the proposal.
