STF arrests man with Charas worth Rs 8 lakh

The anti narcotics task force (ANTF) of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested a drug smuggler with 1.61 kilogrammes of Charas from Pithoragarh’s Munsiyari on late Friday night. The arrested accused was identified as Uttam Singh (40), a resident of Munsiyari, who was supplying Charas in the State for the past several years, said the superintendent of police of STF Ayush Agrawal. The arrested accused revealed during the interrogation that he reportedly extracts Charas from the plants of hemp that he grows in his village to sell it in the plain areas of the State.
Agrawal said that Singh was on the radar of ANTF for several weeks who was reportedly smuggling Charas in different parts of the State. He was finally arrested with the help of local police late on Friday. The authorities found 1.61 kilogrammes of Charas worth Rs eight lakh from the possession of the accused. A case has been registered against him in the Munsyari police station under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as per Agrawal.
He said that the ANTF Kumaon unit this year has so far recovered 24.93 kilogrammes of Charas, 7.91 kilogrammes of opium and 1.39 kilogrammes of smack and took action against 14 people under the NDPS Act.
