In view of the sale of illicit liquor across the State, the excise commissioner Hari Chand Semwal directed the officials to take strict against it. He said that the recent emergence of cases involving the sale of illicit liquor in the State indicates a lack of effective control over the trade of illegal/spurious liquor on a significant scale. The sale of illicit liquor poses a significant concern, both in terms of revenue and public interest, he added.
To address this issue, he instructed the joint excise commissioner of Kumaon KK Kandpal, the joint excise commissioner of Garhwal division Ramesh Singh Chauhan and the deputy excise commissioner of Haridwar Pradeep Kumar to ensure that action is promptly taken against the sale of illicit liquor across the State. He said that this should be accomplished by developing an information system for effective enforcement to prevent any form of revenue loss. Further, he emphasised that any negligence in handling such cases would result in the personnel concerned being held responsible.
It will be recalled that the recent recovery of 110 boxes of illicit liquor in the Khalanga area of Raipur, Dehradun led to the excise commissioner directing action against the district excise officer by the state administration.
