Authorities recover over Rs 10.82 lakh from encroachers

The joint team of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), the regional transport office (RTO) and the police have collected more than Rs 10.82 lakh as a penalty on encroachers under the encroachment- free campaign.
The campaign was started on January 13 on the orders of the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika and since then, the joint team has issued about 4,328 challans, the officials said. The team also removed encroachments from various places of Dehradun including the stretch of Clock Tower and Dilaram Chowk, Vijay Colony, Hathibadkala, hotel Kamla Palace Shimla Bypass and Mehuwala among others.
The corporation issued 53 challans and imposed challans of Rs 36,400. The police issued 36 challans and imposed challans of Rs 11,000. Similarly, RTO issued 15 challans and imposed challans of Rs 7,500. The DM also directed the officers of the departments concerned to conduct regular campaigns against encroachment and make the footpaths and roads completely encroachment free. Any kind of encroachment and any kind of undesirable activities should not be allowed on roads under any circumstances, she added.
