In latest news from Doon, with the Lok Sabha election schedule expected to be announced this week, the State Congress is preparing to shift into top gear while waiting for the party brass to unveil the names of the five candidates for the State. State Congress insiders said that the party’s central election committee was expected to announce the names in the evening as it had shortlisted five names out of the 16 names submitted to it by the party’s screening committee. Among the portables are Pritam Singh from Tehri; Ganesh Godyal from Pauri; Harish Rawat, Harak Singh Rawat, Karan Mahara and Harish Rawat’s son Virender Rawat from Haridwar; Yashpal Arya and Pradeep Tamta from Almora and Bhuvan Kapri from Nainital.
Though the ruling BJP announced names of three candidates for Nainital, Almora and Tehri last week, the Congress is still nursing wounds after the sudden and unexpected crossover of the Pauri probable Manish Khanduri to the saffron fold.
