Rain likely in mountains as plains continue to sizzle

There appears to be no respite from the heat in the plains with Dehradun and other parts in the plains witnessing a hot Monday. However, rain and cooler weather is forecast in the mountainous regions of the State. The State meteorological centre has forecast that light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places in Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Almora, Pithoragarh and Champawat districts on Tuesday. Very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining mountainous districts of the State while dry weather is likely to prevail in the plain districts. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gusty winds (30-40 kmph) and intense spells of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Almora, Pithoragarh and Champawat districts today. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gusty wind (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining mountainous districts on Tuesday.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 40 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Monday were 40.4 degrees Celsius and 26.7 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 41 degrees Celsius and 26.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 27.6 degrees Celsius and 14.8 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 29 degrees Celsius and 18.5 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light to moderate rain was reported in some places with 43.5 millimetres in Sama and 14 millimetres in Didihat.
