Heavy rains batter parts of Kumaon, yellow warning issued for 11 districts

Heavy rain was reported in various parts of Kumaon region on Sunday with light to moderate rain witnessed in other parts of the State. The level of the water in the Ganga at Rishikesh and Gaula in Haldwani rose after water was released from the Tehri dam and Gaula barrage respectively. Meanwhile, the State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of heavy rainfall/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain likely to occur at isolated places in Nainital and Bageshwar districts on Monday. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Pauri, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts today. Further, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Almora and Champawat districts. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Tehri and Haridwar districts and at many places in remaining districts of the State.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky. Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 34 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

Meanwhile, heavy rain was reported in various parts of Kumaon on Sunday with 104 millimetres in Gadarpur, 87 millimetres in Nainital, 82.5 millimetres each in Haldwani and Lohaghat, 80.5 millimetres in Bhimtal and 75 millimetres in Gularbhoj. Moderate rain was reported in various other places in the State with 61.5 millimetres in Kaladhungi, 50.5 millimetres in Ramnagar, 46.5 millimetres in Dehradun, 48 millimetres in Pantnagar, 44.2 millimetres in Mukteshwar and 37.5 millimetres in Almora. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Sunday were 32.4 degrees Celsius and 23.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 24.6 degrees Celsius and 25.8 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 15.3 degrees Celsius and 15.2 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 24.5 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
