SDRF rescues 69 people stuck due to bad weather

Amid heavy rainfall in the Kumaon region on Sunday, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued 69 people in Champawat and Pithoragarh who were stuck due to a swollen river and a blocked road. The Pithoragarh district control room called SDRF to rescue 45 people who were stuck after debris and boulders fell from the mountain near Delhi Bend in the evening, the officials said. The rescue team left for the spot under the supervision of chief constable Manoj Dhoni along with necessary equipment. The team along with the police helped the people in safe rescue of 45 people. In Banbasa area of Champawat, 24 people were stranded near an overflowing river following heavy rains in the afternoon. The rescue team of the SDRF reached at the spot under the supervision of sub inspector Manish Bhakuni. The officials said that the team rescued 24 people stranded on the river bank with the help of a raft in the strong current of the river under difficult conditions and dropped them on a safe route. The authorities also appealed to the people to not travel on mountainous routes unnecessarily during bad weather. In unavoidable circumstances, people should proceed after checking the warning for weather conditions in the respective area or contact the local police for better understanding of the weather there, they added.
