The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) imposed a penalty of Rs one lakh on a restaurant in Malsi area for using banned plastic products. The Dehradun chief municipal health officer Avinash Khanna said that a raid was conducted in a joint operation with the Dehradun district administration and police at the Doon Darbar restaurant in the Malsi area on Friday afternoon. The team found that the restaurant was using several banned plastic products from packaging to serving people food in its establishment. “The restaurant also had two large boxes and a sack filled with single-use plastic items such as packing materials, glasses, spoons and forks. They had stored large amounts of banned plastic products. The use and storage of these items is a direct violation of the law. Considering this, the corporation imposed a hefty fine of Rs one lakh on the restaurant owner on the spot,” Khanna said. He further said that the action taken against the restaurant serves as a stern warning to other establishments in the area that continue to use prohibited plastic items. “We are committed to upholding environmental laws and regulations and such inspections will be conducted regularly to ensure compliance. The MCD along with the administration will work to promote sustainable practices and reduce plastic waste to ensure that the maximum number of people contribute to a cleaner and greener environment,” he added.
