Sitar recital as part of classical music series held at KU

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the third chapter of the Indian classical music programme series was organized at the music department of Kumaun University‘s DSB campus. A noted artist – an A-grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan-Soumitra Thakur presented his sitar recital.
He first presented two compositions in Raga Basant Mukhari in Alaap Jod and Teen Taal. Thereafter, he recited Raga Surdasi Malhar. He was accompanied on tabla by Dehradun’s player Chitrank Pant. Those present lauded the combination of Imdadkhani and Maihar Gharana in his sitar recital. The head of the English department, Prof L M Joshi was present along with a large number of his students.
The head of the Music department, Gagandeep Hothi said that the series was being organised with an objective of introducing students of all the departments of the university to the classical music tradition and to connect them with Indian culture.
