The Chamoli district magistrate Sandeep Tiwari instructed the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) officials to expedite efforts to restore normal traffic flow on the Badrinath National Highway and implement permanent treatments for the landslide-prone areas to prevent further inconvenience to pilgrims visiting the Char Dham and to the local residents.

Tiwari conducted an inspection of the landslide-affected areas on the Badrinath Highway at Komeda, Chatwapipal, and Nandprayag on Wednesday along with NHIDCL officials. He directed the NHIDCL officials to install a gabion wall as an immediate solution at the landslide zone near Chatwapipal and widen the road by at least six metres in this area. He also stressed the need for warning signs to be placed on both sides of the landslide-prone zones and to install drums and reflectors along the edge of the highway for safety purposes to avoid any accidents.

Besides this, he called for the deployment of extra manpower and machinery near the landslide-affected zones. The DM further instructed the officials concerned to conduct a technical survey to develop a permanent solution for the landslide zones as the landslides in these areas have disrupted the Char Dham Yatra for the past four days.
