The union government has increased the additional quota of electricity allotted to Uttarakhand by 180 MW. The union government has also increased the duration for the usage of the additional allocation till June 30, 2025. Notably, 300 MW of additional electricity was allotted to the State by the union government on September 26 which means that Uttarakhand will now get 480 MW of additional electricity from the central pool.
Expressing happiness at the development, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union minister of Power, Manohar Lal Khattar.
The CM had recently met the Union minister Khattar and requested him to provide additional power to the State from the central pool. He had informed Khattar that the gap between availability and demand is consistently increasing in Uttarakhand and the State government is working on a long term plan on solar, hydro power and thermal power to increase its production. The CM said that due to decrease in production of hydro power units and snowfall in the mountains the production decreases in winters which affect the supply situation. He said that additional allocation from the central pool will ensure uninterrupted power supplies during winters in the State.
