Massive awareness campaign needed for trauma care: Governor

Governor lieutenant general ( retd) Gurmit Singh has said that reducing road accidents in Uttarakhand is a big challenge and there is a need to initiate a massive public awareness campaign in this regard.
He was addressing a programme organized by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on the occasion of World Trauma Day at the Raj Bhavan auditorium on Thursday.
The Governor said that not only the doctors but the entire society has a responsibility towards a person suffering from trauma. He opined that the Health department, SDRF, NCC and Red Cross should coordinate to deal with cases of trauma.
Appreciating the public awareness programmes being organised by AIIMS Rishikesh, the Governor said that training around 5,000 students in the last six years is one of the most impressive efforts undertaken by the institute and this initiative is an important step towards building a strong and safe community. He said that AIIMS Rishikesh in collaboration with the State government has successfully evacuated more than 250 patients by helicopter.
The Governor expressed confidence that the heli ambulance and telemedicine facility of AIIMS Rishikesh will help in dealing with health related challenges in the mountainous state. He said that on the occasion of World Trauma Day, everyone should take a pledge to make our communities safer and more capable. The governor said that soon project Sanjeevani will start evacuating patients by helicopter free of cost.
In the programme, Dr Madhur Uniyal of the Trauma department of AIIMS Rishikesh informed about the activities and achievements of the department. The executive director of AIIMS Rishikesh Dr Meenu Singh, Dean Dr Jaya Chaturvedi, head of department of Trauma Dr Qamar Azam and others attended the programme.
